Near Greece, there exists a mystical island inhabited by Amazons and sharing the same Hellenistic culture as the nearby country. This Island is called Themyscira, or Paradise Island, and is led by its Queen Hippolyta.
One day Hippolyta wanted a child and heir, and as such, she prayed to the Gods. After which, she journey’s to the coast and from clay, she forms a statue in form of a child. The gods having heard her prayers turn this statue into a child, a daughter. This young girl would grow up to be Diana of Themyscira and ultimately, the superhero known to the world as Wonder Woman.
Six gods, showing favor on the young child, gift her with strength beyond that of her peers on Paradise Island. From six gods she receives an enhanced attribute. From the goddess Demeter she received enhanced strength. From Aphrodite, she gained beauty and kindness, from Athena she gained a keen mind, strong military skills, and wisdom. The goddess Artemis makes her swifter than others, while Hestia gives her the ability to coerce the truth from others, this manifests itself in the form of her magical lasso. Lastly, the god Hermes gives her superhuman speed and the ability to fly.
Young Diana would grow to be a formidable warrior in the Amazonian tradition. She would prove to be intelligent and brave, as well as strong and skilled in all their arts, but as time would go on, she would discover that Paradise Island is not paradise, and that there are other places in the world that she would wish to visit. Despite her mother’s wishes, she leaves, and journey’s to the outside world. It is here that she becomes a superhero and ultimately an activist and ambassador for her home.
Wonder Woman spends her life protecting others, even allying herself with others in the superhero team The Justice League. Diana would eventually lose her powers, but meet a mysterious man known as I Ching. He would train her in martial arts and they would become adventurers, partaking in feats of espionage and heroics. It is here that Diana would learn to be a hero, not as Wonder woman, but as herself, now named Diana Prince.
Soon, I Ching would presumably die, and Diana would soon regain her powers and return to her career in superheroics and the Justice League. She would then gain a ward, Donna Troy, who would follow in her footsteps as Wonder Girl and too join a team of her own, The Teen Titans.
Wonder Woman would also splinter off from the Justice League and join an alternate team, this team centered in Europe. This team would ultimately disband, and the original League would find itself with a Wonder Woman again.
Soon, Diana would find that another young girl, Cassie Sandsmark, had been chosen to be an emissary for the gods in the same vein as she was, and she needed a mentor. Diana would guide and support this new Wonder Girl while simultaneously maintaining her political and superhero career.
Diana’s relationship with the heroes Superman and Batman would grow, and often seen as synonymous with each other. Still, Diana Prince, Wonder Woman, would remain an active force for good in the world, and still today, she is on of the world’s most active internationally recognized superheroes.
